The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone Painting
by Thomas Moran, 1871

Lower Yellowstone Falls from Artist Point
Thomas Moran's first paintings of the Yellowstone Canyon were instrumental in getting Congress to establish
Yellowstone as America's first national park in 1872. Thirty years after his first trip to Yellowstone he completed his
now famous painting, "The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone." At the CycleFest you will visit Artist Point and see
the place where he painted the above painting. You will also visit Grand Teton National Park where Mount Moran,
the highest of the Grand Teton Mountains, was named after him.
